The fabulous
central dome has murals depicting the four epochs of Indian history. These
murals were done by four Indian artists Lalit Mohan Sen, Lucknow, Ranada
Charan Ukil, Delhi, Shirendra Krishna Deb, Shantiniketan, and Sushansu
Shekhar Choudhry, Kolkata. Though accomplished artists, they traveled to
Florence and Rome to learn the latest techniques of painting on
plaster. They were also trained at the Royal College of Art, London. Just
before their completion in 1931 poet and painter Ravindra Nath Tagore came
to see these murals |
