MNCs across the
globe are now making a beeline every year to
recruit the creme de la creme from the IIM
campuses in India . This year, competition for
IIM graduates was particularly fierce, and in
some cases resulted in virtual bidding wars
with organisations.
Barclays' Capital offered a whopping $193,000
to an IIM Banglaore graduate. To gain a better
perspective of this trend, the UK Chapter of
the IIM Europe forum organised a panel
discussion discussion titled "The Global
Fight for Talent". Moderated
by Mudit Ravindrakumar of Accenture. The panel
included Vasant Naik of Lehman Brothers,
Sanjoy Chatterjee, the CEO of the ICICI Bank,
UK, Anirban Roy, manager finance of the
American Express and Akshay Bhargava of the
3i. NRIFM presents extracts from the
discussion

On Indira Gandhi and investments in India
He was a close friend of the
late Indian Prime Minister Indira
Gandhi. In 1978 when out of
power he helped to arrange Mrs
Gandhi's visit to Britain. Analysts
saw it the beginning of her
political comeback. Then he
tried to invest in prestigious
Indian companies like Escorts
and DCM but had to make a
retreat due to the combined resistance
of India's big business houses.
He says he was ahead of time. in
1983, Indian businesses were
scared of foreign investors.
