NRIfm story on HSMP protest at the
House of Parliament
|
|
They were called as
highly skilled migrants and had top jobs in India. They began to
arrive in Britain in 2002 under the Highly Skilled Migrant
Programme (HSMP) - a programme aimed at attracting skilled
professionals to UK. Now most of them have to re-qualify under
a new points based system that was recently introduced without any
consultation by the British government. Amit Kapadia, the spokesman
of HSMP tells the NRIfm that the newly revised criteria is so stringent that a vast number
of 25,000 Indian professionals will not be able to qualify and might
have to return back to India.
